Alex

Alex

Oh my gosh...this boy...

I just adore this little man!
When his mama called me to take his 3 year old photos I was so excited!  I had done his 2 year old photos the year before and I couldn't wait to see how much he had grown since then.  (He grew like a bad weed!)

We had his session at one of my favorite parks in State College and he had me laughing for just about every minute of it.

I've found it's usually best when working with younger children to kind of just let them go and do their thing and follow them like the paparazzi, snapping away.  It's so much more natural and that always makes for better photos. We went on a bird hunt and had a lot of fun looking for fish and throwing rocks into the water.  We even got to watch some older kids playing basketball!

Did you notice his saddle shoes??  Love them!

I loved the hat too but he had other feelings for it.  He was such a trooper though and put up with wearing it when we asked him to.  (I believe it was a gift from grandma.)

We ended up with a ton of great photos that day!

The Sunflower Field

Yesterday as I was looking at wedding availability for this summer all of the sudden I was reminded of one my photo sessions from last summer.  It wasn't that I had forgotten about it, I just found myself reflecting back on that day and what led up to it.

I've gotten some strange requests over the years for photo shoots so when someone calls me and says "I'd like to book a photo session but........"  I usually hold my breath and wonder what is going to come next.  This was not one of those calls.  B called me to schedule a photo session but she wanted her photos in a sunflower field.  Living in central PA I can't say that sunflower fields are something you see every day but I told her I would try to find one for her.  I hung up the phone and scratched my head, I don't remember ever even seeing a sunflower field other than in a photo or on tv.  So I started calling family and friends asking anyone if they knew where I could find a sunflower field.  It was my mission to find these sunflowers.  It took a few days but we had located not one, not two but three sunflower fields.  All within a 20 minute drive.  Sweet!

When I drove by to check them out I realized it was going to be at least another month until they were blooming.  The fields were actually on the "back way" that my parents would drive to work sometimes so every week I would call them for a sunflower report.  In early August my mom called to report that she had seen some of them starting to bloom so I waited a couple more days and I went to check them out for myself.  This is what I saw!!

It was time!  So we scheduled the session.  If you remember anything about last summer you will probably remember that it was hot.  The day of our session was at least 95 degrees, even later in the evening when we had planned to shoot.

We waited a little while to get to that golden light while we dabbed the sweat from our brow with baby wipes.  (Did I mention it was hot?)  It was well worth it though!

Is there anything cuter than this little guy with his sunflower??

I have to say....I love the sunflowers!

Please note no sunflowers were harmed during this photo session.  We made sure to be respectful of the field and to not cause any damage.  The cut sunflower that we had was found on the ground at the edge of the field, we saw several stocks that we cut and figured someone had been there before us to cut themselves a bouquet.

Val and Vicki Seniors 2013

Valerie and Victoria

I had the opportunity to photograph these two lovely young ladies this fall.

This photo session was twice as much fun, Val and Vicki are twins!  I have known these two since they were babies so to say I was super excited to be doing their senior photos would be an understatement.  I wanted to make sure that I captured not only the unique personality of each of these ladies but also their relationship with each other.

These poor girls....their session got rained out not once but twice.  Some photographers have all the luck and never get rained on.  I seem to have to opposite problem.  I did not want to have to call them to reschedule for a third time.  The day of our third attempt could not have been nicer!  The lighting was great, it wasn't too hot or too cold and the bugs that had plagued Ravensburg Park the entire summer were all but gone.

We had so much fun during this session, these two are a laugh a minute.  Towards the end of the session it was mentioned that from all that smiling and laughing their cheeks were getting tired so I showed them one of my favorite tricks that I use...."the horse".  (Imagine the sound that a horse makes....puff up your cheeks and blow all of the air out between your lips.  Not only does it relax your facial muscles; it provides comic relief!)  After I demonstrated for them there was PLENTY of laughter.  From that point on pretty much all I had to say was "horse" and they couldn't keep a straight face!

Below are a few of my favorite photos from their session:
